Chairman PTA receives unwanted SMS himself

Yes, this was the statement of Chairman PTA-Farooq Ahmad Awan – in front of National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology that he himself received illegal and unwanted SMSes.
Matter regarding the unwanted SMSes that almost every Pakistani receives daily on his/her mobilephone was discussed today in the committee’s session which was chaired by Mohammad Barjis Tahir. Farooq Awan told the committee that strict action would taken against those sending illegal SMSes under Pakistan Electronic Cyber Crime Bill in order to control this menace.
Anusha Rehman – a sitting MNA -  blamed PTA for not controlling this menace particularly when PTA has the mechanism to control it.
Another major decision was taken with reference to 3G licensing in Pakistan. Committee directed the Authority to make sure that no defaulter cellular company participate in the 3G licensing. It was directed after CEO of Universal Services Fund briefed that the organization has Rs. 42 billion whereas it owes Rs. 26 billion against different cellular companies. The committee demanded the list of defaulters from the authority.
